WHISPERING OAKS HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION November 22, 2008 - SPECIAL MEETING Attending: Dave Anderson, Nick Binder, Pat Moyer,
Bob Parker, Walt Walton Police in St. Augustine Beach are urging Whispering Oaks residents to close and lock all doors and windows of their homes and garages, and to report suspicious activity or persons at 471-3600. Detective Bill Bolena, who worked on the burglary at 150 Whispering Oaks Circle, said it is possible that cohorts of the perpetrator of that crime may pose a continuing risk to other homes in our neighborhood. The 2008 WOHA budget meeting resulted in unanimous approval of the 2009 budget as submitted by the treasurer. It calls for a 2009 dues assessment of $580 per lot --- the same as in 2008. A check to WOHA for the full amount is due January 31, 2009. Members should mail checks to WOHA, 951 A1A Beach Blvd., St. Augustine FL 32080. The Board set the following deadlines for the annual Board election: nominations due December 5; ballots distributed December 10; ballot returns due January 5; Annual Meeting January 10 or 17, depending on room availability. (NOTE: Due to unprecedented high demand for use of the Anastasia Library meeting room, the Annual Meeting is postponed until January 24, 2009. The deadline for nominations is extended to December 18. Ballots will be distributed December 20. They must be returned by January 18 unless they are cast at the Annual Meeting.) The Board informally expressed the hope that candidates who ran in the last election will volunteer to run again this year. Dave Anderson said he would convey the Board's encouragement to them. The Board added that Bobby Crum, due to his continuous attention to WOHA landscaping duties, should also receive encouragement. (NOTE: Dave Anderson inadvertently included an internal budget document with the solicitation for nominations, instead of the budget statement itself, which will appear in the December 20 mailing. He regrets the error and any inconvenience. Please disregard the document received.) Board members expressed the hope that a volunteer
will agree to repaint neighborhood signposts after Jim Eubank completes
installation of new street signs and traffic signs. (NOTE: Norine Binder
subsequently volunteered for this task.) The Board indicated that the next Update Newsletter must focus on recent safety and security accomplishments related to lighting, signage and fencing. Vandalism prompted several big-ticket expenditures during 2008. ---Dave Anderson
